Interview liée à la websérie Orange Juice in Bishop's Garden

Interview by Univers-L team on August 30, 2010 for Univers-L.com

Can you tell us if Gwen and Sarah’s relationship will go on or if Sarah is just experimenting new things ? Is their relation just a way to make the buzz on the Internet or is it something more important to you ?

I don’t want to spoil, but I will say that Gwen and Sarah’s relationship definitely continues to blossom and grow. It also goes through some difficulties which they will have to address together.

I can assure you that we will continue to follow them through Season 3 and also in Season 4. This is something important to me and I feel very strongly about making their relationship meaningful and putting it at the forefront of the show. Sarah has been a major character, probably the main character, from the beginning. She’s always been special to me and I always knew there was something she’d been hiding or hadn’t explored. Their storyline has been one of my favorites and I wouldn’t want to cheapen it or do it a dis-service by reducing it to a buzz-story. I actually never thought  their relationship would get so much hype! But I hope it can continue to be one that people care about and relate to– and I will do my best and work my hardest to this end. Like I said before, the beauty of being entirely online is hearing and interacting with viewers… so if you have ideas, opinions, things you love or hate– please share.

Did you know from the beginning that you were about to develop a love affair between Sarah and Gwen ?

Oh yes. Definitely.

When I introduced Gwen it was because I knew I wanted the two to have this love affair of sorts.  I wanted Gwen to show up and shake Sarah’s world up a bit – Sarah’s always been rather guarded, and I wanted to know & show why that was.

I also felt very strongly about featuring a character who was already out of the closet (Gwen) and had already tackled those issues. But at the same time, I wanted to feature a character (Sarah) who was just on the cusp of dealing with her feelings and preparing to come out of her shell.

Gwen is older than the other characters; can she be a main and recurrent character ?

Gwen definitely is a main and recurring character. We’ll be seeing much much more of her (and Sarah) in Season 3 and 4.

She is older, but still holds a special part in the series. Gwen is the epitome of the older, super-cool, wise-girl who doesn’t care what others think. Don’t worry though – I think we’ll see her world become less certain after high-school. I think she starts to feel de-stabilized, finding herself relying on people more, which scares her.

Did you get some feedbacks about the webseries ? Positive ? Negative ?

Yes we actually get a decent amount of feedback, mostly positive. It’s quite surreal sometimes, knowing someone is anticipating this thing you’ve put all your blood and sweat into. Sometimes you become so consumed by its creation you forget why you did it. And then someone writes “Wow the final episode was epic! So sad to see it end.” and you remember. To all the fans, thank you so much for watching.

I think the thing about being online is: it encourages and welcomes feedback and that means you hear it all — negative & positive. But that vulnerability is something you have to just embrace & learn to appreciate.

And last question, can you give us a clue about Gwen and Sarah’s future ?

Okay, you can have it your way 🙂 A few nuggets to chew on, nothing too juicy though.

Things certainly continue. They have their issues and insecurities to deal with and of course Sarah still hasn’t come out to her parents.  Meanwhile, Sarah is leaving for college, but Gwen still hasn’t applied for university and may or may not be staying behind in DC…

I don’t want to give too much away but I’ll say this…  In the upcoming season, as Gwen and Sarah become more serious and have more adventures, their eyes still have twinkles and their tummies still have butterflies, but they’re more comfortable with each other and watching that bud blossom will be fun. Like everything else in the show, I want their relationship to be as realistic as possible. But we all have our happily-ever-after goggles on when we’re in love – and it’s always a somewhat foggy view from where we’re standing in that moment… but also precious and lovely.
